Welcome Letter from Principal Girouard McCann

August 17, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am delighted to join the staff of Hull High School.  I have heard wonderful things about the students and the whole school community so it will be a pleasure to work with all of you this year.  I look forward to getting to know you and your students over the next few months.

Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Devine, Ms. Nosek, Mrs. Condon, and the other HHS staff members who work over the summer, we are all ready to welcome back the students in a matter of days.  Listed below are a few reminders and updates that are important for you to know as we start the 2017 – 2018 school year.

First Day of School
The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 29.  Students should arrive by 7:25 AM and will start their day in advisory.  Lists of advisories will be posted in the main lobby.  Please be aware that all students will have school pictures taken on the first day of school.  More information regarding this will be mailed to you in the next week or so.

Schedules
You and your student have access to your child’s schedule through Aspen.  Just log on and click on the top tab that says Academics and then on the side tab that says Schedule.  If you have forgotten your Aspen log-in or password, please call Lori Condon at 781-925-3000 x. 1106 and she will assist you.

Summer Reading
Please remind your student to get his/her summer reading done!  The summer reading assignments are posted on our blog (http://hullhighschool.blogspot.com/) and the Hull Public Library has been very helpful in making sure that all students have the opportunity to complete the assignment.  As a former English teacher myself, I cannot stress enough the importance of completing summer reading.  This assignment will be the first grade your student earns this year so please encourage your student to complete the reading and assignment so that he/she can start the year with an A!

Staffing
I am thrilled that we have  new educators joining the Hull High School community this year.  They all have great experience, wonderful skills, and a strong desire to be a part of our dynamic learning community.

  • Jennifer Olivieri was at HHS last year as long-term substitute sub for one of our health/wellness teachers; this year she will become a permanent member of that department.
  • Stephanie Harris joins the Math Department as an algebra and geometry teacher.   She comes to HHS from Scituate High School.
  • Julie Krzanowski, the newest member of the English Department, will be teaching freshmen and sophomores.   She has prior experience at Lexington High School and East Hartford, CT
  • Leslie Townsend will be a long-term substitute for special education teacher Colby Bartro who is on maternity for the year.  Her prior experience was at Braintree High School.
  • Taylor Vieira, who was a paraprofessional at Satellite all of last year, will now be the special education teacher there.
  • Edward Cameron will be the special education teacher in our Team Based Learning Classroom.  Mr. Cameron was a paraprofessional at the high school and at Satellite all of last year.

There are still three paraprofessional positions which we in the process of filling as well as a new school psychologist.  These important positions will be filled in the next few days.

Fall Athletics
There are four major components to participation in fall athletics:
1.      Register
2.      Pay athletic user fee
3.      Attend parent, coach, student-athlete meeting
4.      Verify physical within 13 months
All of the information listed below is available with live links at http://piratesathletics.blogspot.com/
Fall sports registration is now available online.  Please register for cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football or soccer at the following link:  http://fs24.formsite.com/HullPirates/form1/index.html
Athletic user fees can be paid at the following link:  https://unipaygold.unibank.com/Default.aspx?customerid=1039
The first sport fee of the school year is $250.  Football comes with an additional $25 charge to total $275.

Student-athletes and their families are STRONGLY encouraged to both register and pay online.  Taking care of these requirements before the season begins will help ensure that your child’s athletic experience is not delayed.   Please be sure that you have a copy of a physical valid within the last 13 months on file with the nurse.  The physical must be valid for the entire season of participation.  Please check this information; an expired physical will delay your child’s athletic experience.
Please call 781.925.3000 x. 1113 or email jquatromoni@town.hull.ma.us with any questions.

Open House
Please plan to join us on Wednesday, September 13 for Open House from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet teachers and hear about the course of study and teacher expectations; bring your son/daughter’s schedule.  We are going green!

Please check the blog for more important information both as we approach the beginning of the school year.  Enjoy the remainder of the summer and I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks.

Sincerely,

Paula Girouard McCann
