Homecoming Photos

We let you know all about last week's homecoming activities via the blog.  Now, thanks to John Lidington, we want you to see some of the wonderful moments our school community experienced this past Friday.  It was an amazingly successful homecoming and our students enjoyed every minute of it.  Enjoy!

The Homecoming Court met on Wednesday for a special photo shoot with Mr. Lidington.

Our Fall Cheerleaders gave one of their best performances in recent memory during our rally.

Our future King and Queen danced onto the basketball court at the rally along with the rest of the Homecoming Court.  They would not be crowned until the dance later that night.

The senior class of 2012 was loud and proud throughout the rally festivities.

The Hull Pirates football team moved their record to an impressive 5-2 with an overtime victory over Randolph.

After a classic overtime victory for our football team, our students danced the night away and our King and Queen were crowned.

The dancing did not stop with the naming of the King and Queen.  Over 200 students and guests danced well into the night with glow sticks in hand.

Live... from Hull High School's Homecoming!

What a great night!  First, our Pirates had a FANTASTIC win in overtime against the Randolph Blue Devils.  Then, 200 of our students entered the gym for a night of dancing and fun.  Less than 20 minutes ago, Jen Farrell (Homecoming Queen 2010) crowned this year's Hull High School Homecoming King and Queen... Jake Botelho and Nathalia Fonseca!  Congratulations to our new Hull High School royalty!

The students are still in there dancing as I am typing this.  They are doing their usual fantastic job, proving once again that Hull High School students are outstanding young adults.  Moms and Dads and guardians - you have every reason to be so proud of your Hull High School students!

A HUGE shout out to Mr. Sivo and the Student Council for putting on a great Spirit Week, rally and dance.

Also - thanks to Ms. Wescott, Mrs. Connors, Mrs. Grosso, Coach Q, and Mr. Lidington for chaperoning the dance with us tonight.  That gym is hot and loud!

Have a fantastic weekend and good luck to our Pirate Cheerleaders as they compete tomorrow in Marshfield.

Topics to be addressed include the following:
·        College Board programs beyond the SAT for middle and high school students
·        Academic accommodations: K-12 vs. college

Congratulations to Jim Quatromoni

Congratulations to our Athletic Director / Community Outreach Coordinator Jim Quatromoni on being selected this year's recipient of the The Ted Damko Award.  The recipient of this award, selected by their peers, must be an athletic administrator having five or less years of experience in the field who has made significant contributions to the school, league, district and State.
We all know that Jim has made a HUGE difference here at our school, but many do not know that Jim is highly respected throughout the state for his work on behalf of student-athletes.

Congratulations, Jim, and keep up the outstanding work!

Congratulations Jade and Raven!

At the Hull School Committee meeting last night, Raven and Jade Dunstan were both presented with Massachusetts Association of School Superintendent Academic Excellence Awards.   Each year, Dr. Tyrell selects an outstanding student to receive this honor.  Because Raven and Jade are currently ranked #1 and #2 in the Class of 2012, separated by only .008 points, Dr. Tyrell requested and received permission to grant two awards this year.
Congratulations to Raven and Jade, and their proud family, on this outstanding honor!

Hull High School's 2nd Annual Advisory Kickoff Day

On Wednesday, October 5th, Hull High School held its second annual Advisory Kickoff Day.  The HHS advisory program is in its sixth year of existence.  It is a program, which was created to ensure that each student at Hull High School has at least one adult mentor who they have the opportunity to build a strong relationship with.  The advisories are formed on our students' first day at HHS and they only dissolve on their final day of classes of senior year.  Each week throughout the year our advisories meet on Wednesdays, they move through an advisory curriculum, which is based on our schools core values.  The topics range  from a group discussion remembering September 11th, to a lesson on the financial value of a college education, to a preview of the upcoming 2012 local and national elections.

For the second year in a row we have "kicked off" our advisory program with a very special day for our students.  During Advisory Kickoff Day, each grade level has a very specific focus for their day's activities.

Freshmen:  The freshmen class stayed in the school and worked with Mr. Devine on a number of team building and leadership activities.  They got to spend quality time with their advisors and reflect upon their first weeks at HHS.

Sophomores:  The sophomore class took the day to give back to a community, which has given so much to them.  The groups were split up amongst four different service projects around town.  These projects included rehabbing the Booster's Snack Shack, The Paragon Carousel, The Camp at Sunset Point , and Hull's Senior Housing.  The student's were able to work together, get a little dirty, and lend a helping hand within the community.

Juniors:  The junior class ventured into Boston via boat and took official tours of seven local colleges and universities.  These schools included Boston University, Northeastern, Suffolk, Emerson, Emmanuel, Mass College of Pharmacy, and UMASS Boston.

Seniors:  The senior class also ventured to Boston on Wednesday, but instead of visiting colleges and universities, they hit some of Boston's best cultural and historical sights.  These sights included The Freedom Trail, Harvard Square, Fenway Park, The Museum of Science. The Museum of Fine Art, The State House, and the Aquarium.

It was an amazing day that was enjoyed by our teachers and students alike.  We truly believe that the entire day is an educational experience, which brings our advisories closer together and improves the overall culture and climate of Hull High School.

We would like to thank both the PTO and HASC for their generous support of Advisory Kickoff Day.  Their contributions made it possible for students needing financial assistance to attend/participate.  The PTO also came through with an amazing BBQ lunch for all of our freshmen and sophomore advisories.

Most of all we would like to thank the teachers and students of Hull High School.  As always, they represented our school and our community admirably in all of their Kickoff Day adventures.

Mr. Devine's October Newsletter

October 7, 2011

Dear Parents and Guardians:

This past Wednesday was our Second Annual Advisory Kick-off Day, and I had the opportunity to spend the entire day with the Class of 2015, our freshman class. Our sophomores were doing community service at the senior housing and the Sunset Point Camp here in Hull, while our juniors and seniors were visiting colleges and cultural sights in Boston.  This was my first opportunity to really get to know our freshmen, and I was so impressed by their humor, unity, friendliness, and spirit.  I have no doubt that they will, like the other students here at Hull High School, do great things during their time with us.

As always, there is a great deal taking place at Hull High School.  Here are just a few things to draw to your attention:

PROGRESS REPORTS

Enclosed in this mailing is your student’s term one progress report.  The grades that are shown on this report are not final grades.  There are still four weeks left in term one.  If you are satisfied with your student’s grades, encourage them to keep up their efforts, and strive for even better!  If you are not satisfied with your student’s grades, please email your student’s teacher(s) to see what can be done to raise that grade before the end of the term.  Don’t forget that teachers post homework assignments on their websites, so you can always check and see if your student is being completely honest when they tell you, “I have no homework tonight.”

GUIDANCE COUNSELORS

In the next few weeks, we will say goodbye to one of our guidance counselors, and welcome back to another counselor.  Mrs. Kate LaVigne will be leaving us in two weeks, as she takes on the toughest job in the world:  full-time mom.  I have worked with Mrs. LaVigne for more than 6 years, and I will greatly miss her honesty, intelligence, and student-centered approach to every decision.

Taking her place is Mrs. Maureen Kelliher.  Mrs. Kelliher worked as a guidance counselor and Director of Guidance at Abington and Norwell High Schools, and, during the 2009-2010 school year, worked at Hull High School as the guidance counselor for our seniors.  Mrs. Kelliher is an outstanding guidance counselor and will be working with all students currently assigned to Mrs. LaVigne.  As sorry as we are to see Mrs. LaVigne leave us, we are tremendously excited to welcome Mrs. Kelliher back to Hull High School.

NEASC VISIT
In less than 30 days we will begin our NEASC Accreditation Visit.  On November 6th, a team of 16 educators from throughout New England will join us for our NEASC accreditation visit.  They will be here for four days and will speak to teachers, students, parents, and community members to judge how well we are doing as a school.  I need your help.  On Sunday, November 6th, we will host an opening reception for the team.   Within the next two weeks, you will be contacted by a member of the School Council asking you to attend this opening event and, if you are able, to help provide light refreshments for our guests.  Please join us that night.  Remember – you only get one chance at a first impression, and Sunday, November 6th is our chance to shine!  I am asking that every family send at least one representative to this reception.  I want the folks from NEASC to see that Hull is a community that cares about its children and their education.  I want them to be amazed by the turnout for an academic event.  We have all seen that this town comes out in droves to important athletic events, now let’s show them that we all come out for important academic events, too.

PSATs
On Wednesday, October 12, all our freshman, sophomores, and juniors will take the PSATs here at Hull High School. This test is an excellent opportunity to prepare to take the SATs, and is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship competition.  In their advisories, all underclassmen have been educated about this test, and informed of its seriousness.   I ask that you echo this message at home and encourage your student to do their best on this important exam.

HULL HIGH SCHOOL BLOG
In order to make it easier for students, parents, and community members to keep track of what is going on at Hull High School, we are now utilizing different forms of social media to get important information out to the public.  Please join us on the web to hear about the great things happening here at our school.
