A Special HHS Event

Dear Basketball Players, Cheerleaders, and Student Fans,

The SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) are planning a 5th Quarter Event after the Girl’s and Boy’s Basketball games against SSCA on Tuesday, February 19th .

5th Quarter originated at Conrad Weiser High School in Robesonia, Pennsylvania following the tragic death of a senior just three weeks before celebrating graduation with the Class of 2006. Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) members worked with school administrators to develop a safe, healthy alternative for high school students. The 5th Quarter is now a tradition at Conrad Weiser, and is considered “the place to be”. Needham HS has also modeled 5th Quarter events after the very successful 5th Quarter program in PA.
5th Quarter events are typically held after high school football or basketball games where there are already a large number of teens at the high school. Teens are invited to come to the school cafeteria after the game to celebrate a victory or support each other after a tough loss in a fun, substance-free environment. The free event offers food, music and activities.

Pirates Basketball Community Service Project

Over the past four years, the Hull High School boys' basketball team has been involved in a valuable community service project.  On snow days, the team organizes and works to shovel snow at the homes of many of our senior citizens.

The team typically shovels up to twenty homes per storm from a list generated by the Senior Center.  During the Blizzard of '13, the team also helped clean up the Senior Center building.

It has been our pleasure to help senior citizens in our community.  Not only has this project been helpful to others, we have seen it as a tremendous team building exercise.  Just as importantly, these efforts are another step in teaching our students to commit to Hull High Schools core values which include service and citizenship.

  • May 4th (register by 4/5)
  • June 1st (register by 5/2)
ACT

Two important upcoming events:

1.  Thursday, March 7th is our annual Junior Parent College Application Evening.  We will begin at 6:30 with a presentation and then Kelly Montrym, an Admissions Counselor from Boston College will speak about the admissions process and answer any of your questions.  This is HIGHLY recommended for all students and parents in the class of 2014!

2.  Starting on February 25th, Ms. Vaughan and Mrs. Kelliher will be working with Mr. Trombly's US History I classes on a college/career research project.  Students will take a personality profile and career inventory, research college requirments, and learn how to use Family Connection (our college application management system).  Students who successfully complete all parts of the project will be eligible to go on a field trip to Curry College in March.  If you are interested in viewing the results of your students personality profile, please email his/her counselor for instructions on how to log-on (results won't be available until February 27th).

Term 2 Report Card Letter

February 2, 2013

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, my daughter and I came to Hull to watch the Drowned Hogs take their annual plunge into the frigid ocean.  As I watched the “crazy swimmers” (that is what my daughter calls them!) run into that 41-degree water, I thought about how many of the students going in were doing so to help raise money for our athletic program.  You see, this year the good people at Wellspring decided that some of the proceeds from the swim will be donated to help ensure that our student-athletes continue to have the opportunity to continue to be a member of a Pirate athletic team.  I also thought about the hundreds of ways that our entire community (students, teachers, parents and other residents) contribute to make Hull High School such a wonderful place of teaching and learning.  You swim, bake, sew, drive, donate, chaperone, collect, rake, keep score, and do so much more.  You send positive messages to your children about respect, service and the value of education.  You offer valuable feedback to me about how you feel we can make our school even better.  I do not say it enough – thank you for all you do for our school.  I can truly say that there is no way that we could do it without you.

Term 2 Report Card
Term 2 report cards were mailed on Thursday.  If you did not receive your student’s report card, it should be in Monday’s mail.  Please remember that you do not need to wait for progress reports and report cards to see how your student is doing in each of his/her classes.  Simply log onto the Aspen system and you can see your student’s current grade, upcoming assignments, and if your student has missed any assessments.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Afternoon:   Wednesday, February 6th (1:20PM - 3:00PM)
Evening:       Monday, February 11th (5:30PM - 8:30PM)

Parent teacher conferences have been scheduled a little earlier than usual this school year.  Conferences are scheduled on both February 6th and February 11th.

To make reservations to meet with a particular teacher, please contact Fran Troy in the guidance office.  Fran can be reached at ftroy@town.hull.ma.us or at (781) 925-3000 X1112.

Please be advised that all conference times will be booked on a first come, first serve basis.  We look forward to seeing you for parent teacher conferences.

As we enter the second half of the 2012-2013 school year, please remember to keep checking here on the blog for the many upcoming events at Hull High School.  As jam-packed as the first semester was, it is even busier between now and June.

Have a great day and thanks again for all you do.

Sincerely,
Michael F. Devine

2013 Hull High School Semi-Formal Rescheduled

The Hull High School Semi- Formal, which was originally scheduled for Saturday evening February 9th has been rescheduled for March 16, 2013.

When the junior and senior class officers set the date for the dance, they were unaware that there was an evening athletic event scheduled for Saturday the 9th.  Due to the fact that some students would be excluded from the dance by this scheduling issue, the class officers voted this morning to change the date of the dance.

All tickets, which have already been purchased will be refunded both today and Monday.  New tickets will be printed and sold sometime after February vacation.

The new date for the dance (March 16th 7-10PM) will ensure that there will be no conflicts with the upcoming Hull Theatre Arts production or the MIAA playoffs for winter athletics.  We hope this change will make our Semi-Formal a truly school-wide event, which all students will be able to enjoy.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
