Freshmen Take the Lead in the 2011-2012 Class Cup Competition

The Hull High School Class Cup is a tradition we began last year.  Each of the four grade levels compete in twelve challenges, which test their commitment to excellence in the areas of academics, community service, and school spirit.

Each challenge is worth four points for the winning class, three points for second place, two points for third place, and one point for fourth place.  The class with the largest number of points at the end of the year, claim the cup and have their name engraved on the trophy.

Last year, the junior class (2012) managed an upset victory over the seniors (2011).  Therefore, in only our second year, we get to watch a class attempt to defend the cup.

On Friday, September 16th we held our first challenge of the school year.  The challenge asked each class to get the largest possible percentage of their grade level out to the first varsity football game of the year.  Little did we know that another upset was in the making.  The freshmen class, won the first challenge of the year by getting 67% of their class out to the game.

We had over two hundred students at the game cheering the Pirates onto victory.  As always, we were impressed by the sportsmanship and behavior displayed by the Hull High School student section.

Stay tuned for Class Cup Updates throughout the year.

Advisory Kickoff Day Rescheduled for October 5th

We were all disappointed when the weather forecast  forced us to cancel our much anticipated Advisory Kickoff Day, which was originally scheduled for Friday, September 23rd.

We are happy to announce that we have rescheduled for Wednesday, October 5th.  Kickoff Day is truly a great day for the students and the staff of Hull High School.  We look forward to the trips, the community service, and the team building, which make the day so special.

Parents are reminded that all permission slips, liability forms, and money are still due in the main office.  Any student needing financial assistance to take the trip to Boston should see Mr. Sivo as soon as possible.

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Mother nature has spoken, and we are forced to postpone our annual Advisory Kick-off Day.  With all of our juniors and seniors taking a boat to Boston and then walking around the city, and all of our sophomores doing community service outside, we feel that postponing the trip makes a lot of sense.  We are working with the boat company to find a day that works for everyone.  As soon as we set a date for our Kick-off day, we will let everyone know.

Have a wonderful day, and stay out of the rain!

Lots of Great Things Happening at Hull High School

It is really starting to feel like fall out there.  The leaves are almost gone from the trees in front of the schools, our fall teams are all playing, and students and teachers are really "hitting the books".  It is a busy and exciting time here at Hull High School, and here are a few things that I would like to draw to your attention:

1,  We've added a number of new scholarships to Family Connection (https://mail.town.hull.ma.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://connection.naviance.com/hull), our college planning website.  Students should check their page frequently for deadlines and instructions on how to apply.  We will continue to update this site as new scholarships are brought to our attention.

2.  The date for our Senior Parent Evening has been changed to Monday, October 3rd @ 6:30.  This is great evening, full of useful information, for parents of seniors, and all are encouraged to attend.

3.  Our Second Annual Advisory Kick-off Day is planned for Friday, September 23rd.  Please make sure your student returns the permission slip that he/she was given this week.  Freshman will stay at Hull High School and participate in team-building exercises, sophomores will complete community service projects throughout Hull, juniors will go to Boston and visit colleges and universities, and seniors will visit cultural sites in Boston.  Any student who needs financial assiatnce should see Mr. Sivo on Monday or Tuesday.

4.  Please plan on joining us on November 6th as we welcome our NEASC visiting team.  More information will be coming soon, but mark your calendars now!

A special thanks to those parents who attended our Open House this past Tuesday.  We hope you found the night informative and enjoyable.  I know that all of us here at Hull High School enjoyed seeing you.

That's all for now, but please keep checking the blog at http://www.hullhighschool.blogspot.com/, or at Hull High School on Facebook.  Also, please help us spread the word to all parents and community members that there is now a great place to get information about all the great things happening at Hull High School.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you at the game tonight or at Endless Summer this weekend.

Hull High School's Student Council Election Results

Congratulations to the newest members of the HHS Student Council.  The top four vote-getters in each grade level earned a spot on the council, but due to the fact that we had a dead heat for fourth place in the junior, sophomore, and freshmen classes, they will be represented by five council members.

We want to thank all of those students who showed the courage necessary to run for elected office and we wish our newly elected officials the best of luck.

September 11th Observations at Hull High School

On Monday, September 12th, our school community will pause to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  It is amazing to me to think that ten years have passed since that unforgettable day, and that many of the students in our school have no, or limited, recollections of the day.  On Monday, every social studies class here at Hull High School will be devoted to discussions of the events and consequences of September 11th.

I would like to share with you two things with you.

The first is a link to a video about Welles Crowther, a true hero who saved at least twelve lives in the World Trade Center on September 11th.

The second is an article written by my friend Matthew West.  Matt's dad was killed while working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  All of us have at leasst one connection to 9/11 and, for me, Matt and his father are one of my connections.

I hope that you take time this weekend to spend time with your loved ones, and to remember those who still grieve the loss of a loved one.

Please join us next Tuesday, September 13th, for our annual Open House.  We will start at 7 PM in the Joseph Doniger Auditorium, and you will have the opportunity to meet all of your student's teachers.  One lucky parent or guardian will even win a Hull High School Athletics season pass!

We will also be conducting an election for two parent seats on our School Council.  So far, AnnMarie Dunn and Brian Lanner are on the ballot.  If you are interested in running, please contact me via email this weekend.

Thanks and see you on Tuesday!!

Hull High School Open House Tuesday, September 13th 7 PM

Just a reminder that our annual Open House will take place next Tuesday, September 13, 2011.  The evening will begin at & 7 PM in the Joseph Doniger Auditorium.  Parents will then follow their student's schedule, and will have the opportunity to meet each of their child's teachers.  Teacher will explain course expectations, communication procedures, and the topics that will be covered in the class.

At Open Hosue, the PTO will conduct an election for the two open parent seats on our School Council.  Two parents contacted me and will appear on the ballot, but there is still time to get your name on the ballot if you are interested.  The School Council advises the high school principal on matters related to the budget and policies.  If you are interested in running for a seat on the School Council, please email Mr. Devine at mdevine@town.hull.ma.us before Thursday September 8th, so that your name may be printed on the ballot.

Thanks and have a great day!
