Important National Honor Society Information

In the next few weeks Juniors and Seniors  with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be invited to apply for the National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921.

The Corona Chapter of the National Honor Society at Hull High School is committed to serving both the school and local community and sees its members as role models in our school.  Requirements for membership in this chapter are:

•           Minimum of 3.5 (weighted) GPA
•           Documented leadership
•           Documented character
•           Documented service – at least 20 hours per year during your time at HHS

Candidates are reviewed and members are selected by the Faculty Council, a group of five Hull High School teachers, appointed annually by the principal.  Their decisions are final, and will only be reviewed by the principal for technical or procedural errors that may have occurred.

All membership decisions will be made by the Faculty Council upon reviewing the following materials:

3.         Supporting Letters
All candidates must provide a letter of confirmation for any claim of service and leadership.  The letters must be from adults who can confirm the time served, and nature of the service and/or leadership.  Letters from family members will not be considered.  Leadership and service claimed on the candidate’s resume, which are not confirmed by a supporting letter, will not be considered.

4.         Statement of Intent
Character and leadership are two very important qualities that NHS members possess. In an essay of 1000 or less words please explain how you exemplify these traits.

All teachers will be given the attached rubric and asked to rate each applicant in the areas of character and leadership.  Applicants will not have access to these rubrics.

7.         Interview

Each applicant who turns in a completed application that demonstrates evidence of qualification in all areas will have the opportunity to have a 5-minute interview with two members of the Faculty Council.  The interview is meant to enhance, not replace, information provided by the applicant in his/her application packet.
