New Scholarships

Many new scholarships posted below the cut!  Some have deadlines in late January/early February, so please read carefully!

 

1.  Charitable and Educational Trust of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts

Award: Up to $1,000.00

Requirements:
  • Member of the senior classw
  • Awarded based on (a) Scholastic Ability, (b) Character, and (c) Activities
  • Must be planning to attend a 4-year, degree granting college
  • Some scholarships will be awarded only to students with Lodge affilitiation (see application form for more details)
How to Apply:  See Mrs. Troy in the guidance office to pick up an application.

Deadline:  March 1, 2013

2.  University of Dayton Leadership in Service Scholarship

Award: $10,000 ($2,500.00 per year - must be used at U of D)

Requirements:
  • Student must apply, be accepted, and decide to enroll at the University of Dayton
  • Must be nominated by Mr. Devine
How to Apply:  Turn in a resume to the guidance office. Please specify on the resume that you are applying for this scholarship.

Deadline:  February 1, 2013


3.  Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship & Principal's Award

Award: Up to $12,000.00

Requirements:
  • GPA, class rank, test scores, honors, activities on campus and hours/types of community service will all be considered.
  • The student nominated by Mr. Devine will be asked to answer the essay question: "Please explain how a person believing in you has had a positive impact on your success.  What did he/she do and how did it help?"
How to Apply:  Turn a resume in to the guidance office no later than January 25, 2013.  If you are nominated for the award you will be notified and given further instruction.  Be prepared to complete an application and answer the essay topic listed above. 

Deadline:  January 25, 2013 (Resume to Guidance)
                February 8, 2013 (nominated student will need to turn in complete application)

4.  Rockland Trust Scholarship

Award: $2,500.00

Requirements:
  • Must be a resident of a certain counties, including Plymouth
  • Rockland Trust employees and their relatives are not eligible
  • Applicant must be entering college for the first time, enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by the university), in an undergraduate course of study.
  • Applicant must fall in the top 50% of their class
  • Should the recipient withdraw from the educational institution, they will need to refund the scholarship
How to Apply:  Applicants can pick up the scholarship at any Rockland Trust branch.  Scholarship forms will be available for pick-up on January 21, 2013. (SIDE NOTE: applications are not available at the high school, only RT branches)

Deadline:  March 15, 2013


5.  The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship

Award: Ranges from $3,000 to $15,000.00

Requirements:
  • Applicants must be permanent residents of New England but may attend college anywhere in the United States
  • High School seniors entering college and returning college students attending accredited U.S. colleges or universities fulltime are eligivle to apply for the scholarship.  Awards are limited to students in undergraduate study and to those seeeking their first bachelor's degree
  • Applicants must have a GPA between 3.0 and 4.0 to apply
  • The award is renewable for up to four undergraduate years profiding there is continued financial eligibility and the student maintains a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • All grants must be applied to tuition and fees only and will be paid directly to the institution
How to Apply: 
  • Visit www.phillips-scholarship.org for the online application. 
  • Before beginning the application, use the financial calculator on the website to be sure that you qualify financially.  Please keep in mind that:
    • 92% of newly awarded students in 2012 had family AGIs of less than $80,000
    • 82% of newly awarded students in 2012 had federal EFCs of less than $5,000
Deadline:  May 1, 2013 (You will need recommendations for this, so the application should be viewed well in advance of this deadline)


6.  Best Buy Scholarship Program

Award: $1,000.00

Requirements:
  • Students in grades 9 - 12 living in the U.S. and Peurto Rico are eligible to apply
  • Students who demonstrate good grades, commitment to community service and/or work expericence

7.  AES Engineering Scholarship

Award: $500.00

Requirements:
  • High school senior planning to attend a post-secondary educational facility
  • Not required to take engineering courses
  • Selection based on the essay submitted
How to Apply: 
  • Students must submit an essay of 500 to 1000 words in answer to the following question:
Reflecting on your personal experiences and/or circumstances, tell us something about yourself that distinguishes you as a potential scholarship candidate.
Deadline: October 4, 2013


8.  South Shore Bay Band

Award: has historically averaged around $300

Requirements:
  • High school music student planning to attend a college or university in the next academic year.
How to Apply:  Pick up an application from Mrs. Troy in the guidance office.

Deadline:  April 13, 2013
