Hull High School's 2nd Annual Advisory Kickoff Day

On Wednesday, October 5th, Hull High School held its second annual Advisory Kickoff Day.  The HHS advisory program is in its sixth year of existence.  It is a program, which was created to ensure that each student at Hull High School has at least one adult mentor who they have the opportunity to build a strong relationship with.  The advisories are formed on our students' first day at HHS and they only dissolve on their final day of classes of senior year.  Each week throughout the year our advisories meet on Wednesdays, they move through an advisory curriculum, which is based on our schools core values.  The topics range  from a group discussion remembering September 11th, to a lesson on the financial value of a college education, to a preview of the upcoming 2012 local and national elections.

For the second year in a row we have "kicked off" our advisory program with a very special day for our students.  During Advisory Kickoff Day, each grade level has a very specific focus for their day's activities.

Freshmen:  The freshmen class stayed in the school and worked with Mr. Devine on a number of team building and leadership activities.  They got to spend quality time with their advisors and reflect upon their first weeks at HHS.

Sophomores:  The sophomore class took the day to give back to a community, which has given so much to them.  The groups were split up amongst four different service projects around town.  These projects included rehabbing the Booster's Snack Shack, The Paragon Carousel, The Camp at Sunset Point , and Hull's Senior Housing.  The student's were able to work together, get a little dirty, and lend a helping hand within the community.

Juniors:  The junior class ventured into Boston via boat and took official tours of seven local colleges and universities.  These schools included Boston University, Northeastern, Suffolk, Emerson, Emmanuel, Mass College of Pharmacy, and UMASS Boston.

Seniors:  The senior class also ventured to Boston on Wednesday, but instead of visiting colleges and universities, they hit some of Boston's best cultural and historical sights.  These sights included The Freedom Trail, Harvard Square, Fenway Park, The Museum of Science. The Museum of Fine Art, The State House, and the Aquarium.

It was an amazing day that was enjoyed by our teachers and students alike.  We truly believe that the entire day is an educational experience, which brings our advisories closer together and improves the overall culture and climate of Hull High School.

We would like to thank both the PTO and HASC for their generous support of Advisory Kickoff Day.  Their contributions made it possible for students needing financial assistance to attend/participate.  The PTO also came through with an amazing BBQ lunch for all of our freshmen and sophomore advisories.

Most of all we would like to thank the teachers and students of Hull High School.  As always, they represented our school and our community admirably in all of their Kickoff Day adventures.
