Scholarships & Awards for the Class of 2014

This year all potential scholarships and awards will be posted right here on the HHS Blog!  They will be added as they come in through the guidance office.  Please make sure to read instructions carefully so you know exactly how and when to apply.  All the scholarships & awards will be tagged "Scholarships 2014." 

The scholarships posted on the HHS Blog are from organizations that have reached out to us via mail or email to help them promote their award.  For college/university-specific scholarships, students should check the Financial Aid page of the school's website.  Students can also search for scholarships using q national search engine (ex: http://www.scholarships.com/).

Comcast Leaders & Achievers

Award Amount:  $1000.00 one time grant

Requirements:

  • Be a full-time high school senior currently enrolled at a high school within a Comcast Community or otherwise approved by Comcast.
  • Student grade point average of 2.8 or higher.  
  • Student demonstrates leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences.
  • Student shows a strong commitment to and involvement in community service.
  • Student plans to attend an accredited, nonprofit college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States.
  • Student will need to verify nomination by entering the Comcast School Code (CSC), provided by the principal or guidance counselor. 
  • Student will need to complete and approve the terms and conditions set forth in the media release included as part of the scholarship acceptance form.  If the nominee is not over the age of eighteen, the parent/guardian must complete and approve the terms and conditions set forth in the media release included as part of the scholarship acceptance form.
How to Apply:
 
Mr. Devine can nominate one person to move forward in the competition.  If you would like to be considered, submit a resume to the guidance office by November 1, 2013.
 
Deadline:  November 1, 2013
 
Please Note:  After you are nominated you will be required to complete an application form with Comcast.  Being nominated does not ensure you have won the award.

Horatio Alger National and State Scholarship Program
If integrity, determination and courage describe you - then, you have what it takes to be a Horatio Alger Scholar.  Our scholarships reward students who possess the character to succeed in life.  We help students overcome the financial barriers of pursuing higher education.  To qualify, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college.  See us at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships and apply yourself.
Award Amount:  up to $20,000

Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer 2014 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
  • Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
  • Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
  • Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be a United States Citizen
