Course Selection 2013: Virtual High School & School Day Internships

This past Wednesday Mrs. Grosso and Mr. Quatromoni met with students in the junior and sophomore classes to discuss two unique course offerings available to them.

Mrs. Grosso talked about Virtual High School (VHS), which are online courses available to students in a variety of subject areas.  For more information on VHS and to look at the course catelog, visit their website at www.thevhscollaborative.org.  This is a great option for students interested in taking challenging courses in subject areas we don't currently offer at the high school.  This year we have students taking courses such as Media and Society, Marketing and The Internet, AP Statistics, AP Government, Forensic Science, The Vietnam War, and many others!

Mr. Quatromoni discussed our internship program, which is available to students in the senior class.  He will work with the student to find them a school day internship in a field they are interested in learning more about.  We have students doing internships at the Coast Guard, the Jacobs Elementary School, The Memorial Middle School (nursing), with a local Physical Therapist, a Speech and Language Pathologist, and with Special Education Teachers, and many other local businesses.  This is a great opportunity to earn high school credit while learning about a career!

To pursue either VHS or an Internship, the first step is coming to one of two after school meetings next week.  Mrs. Grosso and Coach Q. will be in the library after school on Tuesday, April 9th and Wednesday, April 10th to get students started!  If a student is unable to make one of these dates, he/she needs to see Mrs. Grosso or Coach Q. before Tuesday, April 9th to set up another time to meet.  We hope to see many students taking advantage of these awesome opportunities!
