Legally Blonde
is the story of sorority girl Elle Woods who manages to charm her way into
Harvard Law school in hopes of impressing her ex-boyfriend enough so that he
will propose to her. Along the way she
begins to see her ability to help others in need, mostly misfit characters in
the school and surrounding community.
Elle Woods discovers by remaining true to herself she can pursue dreams
that align with her unlimited potential.
“This year’s season of
shows was selected in response to current events,” says Director of Theatre
Arts, Jim Sullivan. The Diary of Anne Frank, with the resurfacing of neo-Nazi
demonstrations, Lockdown with the
student response to gun violence and Legally
Blonde with the reinvigorated Women’s Rights movement that has been
specifically addressing misogynistic attitudes and inequality in the
workplace. “It is important for the
students to see theatre as an art form that holds a mirror up to the society
around them. In addition, it allows them
to be able to process some of these issues through the safety of role play.”
Legally Blonde is a big show. It is fast paced, filled with
PG-13 hilarity but also delivers a poignant and powerful message. Says
Sullivan, “Some people in this world feel the only way to climb to the top is
over the backs of others as they try to pull them down. Elle Woods reminds us that having a
compassionate heart is what truly propels you forward.”
On Friday evening, an
opening night reception will be held in the cafeteria with complimentary
refreshments. This is a great chance to
mingle with your favorite performers in the show and for younger audience
members to get autographs. Of course
Saturday evening’s performance will feature the “Senior Bows”- an annual
tradition where the senior members of HHSTA will take an extra final bow before
graduating in May.
Legally Blonde is
presented Through Special Arrangement with Music Theatre International, 421
