News from the Guidance Department
Seniors and Parents/Guardians:
The guidance counselors visited senior English classes last
week to discuss postsecondary planning, with a special emphasis on the
application process for four-year colleges. Below, please find the link
to the “College Application Handbook for Senior Year” that was discussed and
emailed to the students. It contains a typical timeline for senior year,
SAT/ACT dates and deadlines, detailed instructions on the Common App and
Naviance, and information about financial aid.
Also, here is the link to the “College Application for
Junior Year” that was given to the Class of 2018 last spring. This
contains FAQ’s about SAT/ACT testing, tips about college tours and interviews,
a preview of the college essay topics on the Common App, information about the
NCAA and other college sports/activities, and more!
As a reminder, the College Financing Seminar hosted by MEFA
will be in the HHS Exhibition Room next Monday, 9/25 at 7:00pm, and the
Guidance Department’s Senior Parent Night will be in the HHS Exhibition Room on
Wednesday, 10/4 at 7:00pm. We hope to see you there!

High School Open House
Hull High
School’s annual Open House will be held on
Wednesday, September 13 from 7 pm to 9 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to
follow your student’s schedule so you can meet all their teachers, learn about
the curriculum, and become familiar with the expectation for each course.
This year we
also have a special feature, Hidden in
Plain Sight, sponsored the
Hull Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Addiction. Parents
are invited to search a staged student bedroom to educate themselves about
signs of alcohol and drug use that may be “hidden in plain sight.” The program
will include 60+ props that could potentially signal substance abuse. Emerging
local drug use trends will be highlighted. The goal of this initiative is to enlighten
parents and to encourage them to have honest and candid discussions with their
children about substance abuse.
I look forward
to meeting you this coming Wednesday.
