June 23, 2014
Dear Parents and Guardians:
It still seems a little crazy to me that this school year is
over! Each year it seems that it goes by
even faster than the year before.
Somebody said this has something to do with getting older but I am not
so sure about that! The 2013-2014 school
year was another great one for the students, faculty and staff at Hull High
School. Thanks to the hard work and
dedication of so many, our students were able to have meaningful learning
experiences in the classrooms, labs, athletic fields, field trips and
stage. This truly is an amazing
community!
Congratulations
Class of 2014
Seventy-two members of the Class of 2014 received their
diploma on June 7th. We were
outside on the athletic field and it was a beautiful day. Marco and “The Kates” gave wonderful speeches
and those speeches can be found here on the blog. The night before almost 60% of the graduates
received at least one scholarship at our annual Scholarships and Awards
evening. Thanks to our generous donors,
$76,000 was awarded to our students.
To the parents of the Class of 2014 – you have raised
wonderful children. It has been my
pleasure to watch them grow into outstanding young men and women. I am going to miss them.
Summer Reading
Within the next two week you will receive a mailing from us
with the details for this year’s summer reading. This year the History Department will be
responsible for summer reading. So if
your son/daughter is enrolled in a Honors-level history class, he/she will be
required to do the summer reading assignment.
If he/she is enrolled in a College Prep-level History class, he/she will
have the opportunity to do the summer reading assignment for extra credit.
Farewells
As you know, Ms. Jamie Vaughan is leaving Hull High School
and starting a new job at a school in Brooklyn, NY. Jamie has been at HHS since 2009 and has made
many positive contributions to our school.
Our guidance office just won’t be the same! Thanks Jamie and best of luck in NYC!
I also want to congratulate Mrs. Jeanne Ivas on her
retirement after spending the last 39 years at HHS. Jeanne has been working with students with
special needs here since 1975 and has provided guidance and support to
thousands of students. Thanks Jeanne and
may your retirement be filled with wonderful trips and fulfilling days.
Fall Athletics
If your son/daughter is planning on participating in Pirate
Athletics this fall, please remember that he/she must have an up-to-date
physical on the first day of try-outs.
If you have any questions at all about this, please contact Jim Quatromoni
at extension 1113.
This is the end of my fifth year as the principal of Hull
High School and I can’t think of a better place to come to work each day. I am already looking forward to the start of
year 6!
Have a wonderful, safe and relaxing summer.
Sincerely,
Michael F. Devine
Principal
Hull High School
