Live from Homecoming 2012
Congratulations to the Hull High School 2012 Homecoming King and Queen...
Dominick Marcella and Nicole Twombly!
Everyone is having a great time and, as always, are being well-behaved and respectful.
Don't forget the football game against Norwell tomorrow at 6 PM.
HHS Updates
Greetings
from Hull High School! A lot has
happened here since I last posted, so here are some highlights:
Homecoming
Due to the
torrential rain forecast for this afternoon and evening, the homecoming
football game against the Norwell Clippers has been postponed to Saturday
October 20th at 6 PM. The
Homecoming dance will still take place tonight at 8 PM here in the high school
gymnasium.
Mr. Sivo
Congratulations
to Scott and Lauren Sivo as they welcomed Tessa Mae Sivo into the world on
Sunday October 14th. Mom and
Tessa are both doing very well and are now at home. Mr. Sivo has been at home with his family
this week and will also be at home next week.
Retired Norwell High School assistant principal Andrea Keating has been
filling in for Scott this week and will be back next week. I worked with Andrea for six years at NHS and
it is great to have her helping here at HHS.
Grade 8 Open House
This past
Wednesday, we had a very successful Grade 8 Open House. More than 40 students and their parents/guardians
attended the evening where they received information about and took a tour of
our school. A very special thank you to
Mrs. Grosso and the members of the National Honor Society for all their
assistance with the evening.
Aspen
Two weeks
ago you should have received a mailing containing your login and password for
our Aspen Student Information System. If
you are having any trouble with the system, please contact Lisa Dalton at
781-925-3000 X.1106. Please remember
that you will not be able to see student grades until the start of the second
term.
PSATs
All of our
freshmen, sophomores and juniors took the PSAT this past week. Teachers report that the students took the
exam very seriously and really gave it their best shot. Scores will be given to students and parents
when we receive them in December.
School Nurse
As many of
you know, Mrs. Lovey Condrick has been serving as our school nurse since the
start of school, as we hired our permanent school nurse. Lovey has done an amazing job and has contributed
a great deal to our school in a very short time. Lovey has agreed to remain at her post until
our permanent nurse is on board, hopefully in the next two weeks. As soon as she is hired, we will let you
know.
School Council
The HHS
School Council is meeting on Monday October 22nd at 6 PM in the high
school library. We will be discussing
National Honor Society and Alcohol and Drug Awareness programming. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Well,
another busy couple of weeks at Hull High School. As always, feel free to contact me if you
have any questions or concerns about our school or your student’s experience
here.
Have a
wonderful weekend and watch for my blog post at 10:15 PM on Friday night when
we announce the Hull High School 2012 Homecoming King and Queen.

Dear Parents of Grade Eight Students:
Greetings from the faculty, staff and administration of Hull High School . The next 10 months will be a very important time for you and your child as in less than a year, he/she will leave middle school and start high school. I know that some of you are considering sending your child elsewhere for high school, but it is my hope that he/she will be a Hull High School student. I ask that before you make any decision, you join us for our annual Grade 8 Open House, on Wednesday October 17th, starting at 7 PM. At this open house, you will have the opportunity to meet many of our teachers and support staff, coaches, advisors, and student-leaders. You will also have a chance to tour the building and hear from me about our school.
Named as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Hull High School is a vibrant learning community. The academic, artistic and athletic accomplishments of our students are a source of great pride for our school and I am excited about sharing these with you.
For more information about this evening and about Hull High School , please look at the Hull High School Blog at www.hullhighschool.blogspot.com.
I hope to see you on October 17th, and I look forward to working with you and your student over the next 4 ½ years.
Sincerely,
Michael F. Devine

A new scholarship is listed under the cut. To date we have not received a single entry for the Jewish War Veterans Scholarship, The Comcast Leaders & Acheivers Scholarship, The Danforth Scholars, and the BU Trustees Scholarship. All of these have deadlines in the next few weeks and required that you turn a resume in to the guidance office. We REALLY want to nominate someone, but can't do so if we don't know you are interested!
Details on how to apply and qualification requirements were posted here:

Term 1 Progress Report Newsletter
October 5, 2012
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Two weeks ago, we had our Third Annual Advisory Kick-off
Day, and I had the opportunity to spend the entire day with the Class of 2016,
our freshman class. Our sophomores were doing community service throughout Hull,
while our juniors and seniors were visiting colleges and cultural sights in
Boston. AnnMarie Dunn and several other
“PTO Moms” put on a great cookout here for the students, and a great day was
had by all. This was my first opportunity
to really get to know our freshmen, and I was so impressed by their humor, kindness,
enthusiasm , and spirit. I have no doubt
that they will, like the other students here at Hull High School, do great
things during their time with us.
As always, there is a great deal taking place at Hull High
School. Here are just a few things to
draw to your attention:
You should receive a mailing tomorrow or Monday with your
student’s term one progress report. The
grades that are shown on this report are not final grades. There are still four weeks left in term
one. If you are satisfied with your
student’s grades, encourage them to keep up their efforts, and strive for even
better! If you are not satisfied with
your student’s grades, please email your student’s teacher(s) to see what can
be done to raise that grade before the end of the term. Don’t forget that teachers post homework
assignments on ASPEN, so you can always check and see if your student is being
completely honest when they tell you, “I have no homework tonight.”
ASPEN
Also enclosed in the mailing is information, including your
login and password, for our ASPEN student information system. If you have any problems with this system,
please feel free to call Lisa Dalton here at the high school and she will
either help you immediately or within 24 hours.
PSATs
On Wednesday, October 17, all our freshman, sophomores, and
juniors will take the PSATs here at Hull High School. This test is an excellent
opportunity to prepare to take the SATs, and is the qualifying test for the
National Merit Scholarship competition.
In their advisories, all underclassmen have been educated about this
test, and informed of its seriousness.
I ask that you echo this message at home and encourage your student to
do their best on this important exam.
Seniors are permitted to come in late on the 17th. We will get more information to you about
this next week.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to:
- Stephanie Striglio on receiving the annual Superintendent’s Award. This award recognizes outstanding academic and co-curricular achievement by a senior.
- The Hull High School Boosters Club for receiving the Joao Rodrigues Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to high school athletics. As we all know – there would be no sports at HHS if not for the efforts of our Boosters Club. If you have not yet involved yourself with the Boosters – please do!
It is now Friday night at about 5:30PM and the cars are
starting to arrive for our football game against East Bridgewater. Let’s hope for another Pirate victory and
that Hull High School continues to excel in every way.
Have a great long weekend.
Sincerely,
Michael F. Devine

Our Award Winning Boosters' Club
Over the last four years, the Hull Boosters' Club has raised and donated over $300,000 to athletics, professional development, drama, project humanitarian involvement, field trips, cook outs and all the little things that help enhance the experience of our students.
Additionally, these volunteers have contributed over 4000 hours to game day support, working as: ticket takers, in the snack shack, operating scoreboards and scorebooks. Those hours have translated to a savings of over $60,000 real dollars.
In recognition of these efforts, the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association (MSSADA) in conjunction with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) have awarded our Hull Boosters' Club with the Jaoa Rodriguez Distinguished Service Award.
This award is the highest recognition that a volunteer or volunteer group can receive. It is an extremely prestigious honor.
Please join us in congratulating our Boosters' Club. And a special thanks to our community for being so generous in helping the Boosters continue to help us save Hull High School Athletics.
